Its Habitat:
  • It is an ectoparasite to the Honey Bee.
  • There Nearly World Wide.

Its Negative Effects:
  • Varroa mites spread naturally between bee colonies by travelling on the bees
  • A heavily infested colony may have mites on a third or more of adult bees or brood.
  • Attack by varroa mite weakens bees, shortens their lives, or causes death from virus infections that would otherwise cause little harm

Its Posotive Effects:
  • It does not cause harm to people.
  • They only feed onto bees.

What Can Be Done:
  • Varroa mites can be treated with commercially-available miticides.
  • Proper use of miticides also slows the development of resistance of the mites.
